Queer Conversations: An event designed to foster understanding though tackling tough topics and having an open, honest dialog.
Baton Rouge Pride is excited to introduce its newest community outreach endeavor, Queer Conversations. Queer Conversations will be a queer and questioning roundtable to foster open dialogue and tackle tough topics facing the LGBGTQIA+ community in a safe space, occurring on the third Wednesday of every month.

We invite community members to submit future topics, questions for existing topics, apply to become a moderator or panelist.
Queer And Graduating - May 19, 2021
Moderator Capi Landreneau will lead the panel of 7 individuals discussing the most important dos and don'ts of landing a job while being able to express your identity. Talking points are set to include questions such as “What are some ways to ask and address diversity and inclusion policies when interviewing with recruiters,” “What is the best way to address misidentification and/or misappropriate use of pronouns in an interview or employment setting,” and much more.

TransGressions: A history of Trans identity
Picture
With the current divisiveness and ongoing attacks poised at the trans community as of recent, we thought it necessary to combat intolerance and injustice with education and insight. This pride month, “Queer Conversations,” will be collaborating and combining with our trans-centric “Transgressions” event to highlight the history of the trans-identity.

In this special “Queer Conversation,” we will be discussing varying topics ranging from the evolution of what it means to be trans, how far the movement toward equality and equal protection has come, how far the movement has left to go, the current state of affairs, and what we as both members or allies of the community can do to help.
Sex, Gender Identity, and Sexual Orientation: Understanding the differences, similarities, and intersectionality of often misunderstood identifiers (Coming July 2021)
As concepts of identity expand and contract over time, it is natural for cultural whiplash to take place when keeping up with respectful terminology and identifiers. Three of the most often misunderstood and misconstrued concepts are those of gender identity, sex, and sexual orientation.

In an effort to combat misinformation and put a rest to common rumors associated with these identifiers, we will be discussing a variety of topics discussing the evolution of these identifiers, their differences, their similarities, and their cross sections. The idea hinges on the community's participation in clearing up these misunderstandings both in and outside of the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies.
Queer-mediation for Educators: Discussing tips, tricks, and tools for queer or allied educators and support staff for the upcoming academic year (Coming August 2021)
Identity, Religion, and In-between: Congregating about the trials and tribulations related to being religious and LGBTQIA+. (Coming september 2021)
Holidays and Hardships: Discussing the stressors of life, identity, and the upcoming holiday season for queer and questioning individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community (Coming OCtober 2021)
HIV Positivity - Understanding what it means to be HIV positive, prioritizing testing and treatment education, and ending the stigma associated with HIV and AIDS. (Coming November 2021)
RESPECT MY IDENTITY: Emphasizing the importance of proper name and pronoun usage as well as understanding and normalizing identity diversity. (Coming December 2021)
